Synopsis: This duology follows Adeline Reilly who inherits a spooky old home from her grandmother. Whilst working as an author she uncovers some strange things within her new home. Adeline catches the eye of Zade Meadows who runs an organisation dedicated to dismantling human trafficking rings. Zade sets his sights on Adeline and won't stop until he can have her, no matter the cost.

Review: Let's start by saying this duology is a dark stalker romance so always check your trigger warnings, book two is much darker than the first, so keep that in mind. This duology is known as the cat and mouse duet which fits perfectly as we have this chase between Adeline and Zade which keeps you in suspense, it's a dark romance with the feel of a mystery/thriller.

I don't want to give away any spoilers for this book so let's just say it's a wild ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat, the spice and the tension between the characters is perfect for anyone who loves an unhinged fictional man and who can get on board with the kind of love that starts with toxic obsession. Book one has this dark spooky vibe and feels more like a mystery but be prepared for book two to rip out your heart, wreck you emotionally and then slowly put you back together again. If you're just venturing into dark romance I probably wouldn't recommend this book just yet to those who haven't read any dark romance especially if you have any triggers but I did rate this duet five stars and I still think about it all the time.

This was the first book I read from H.D. Carlton and I've since gone on to read most of their other books and I'm definitely a fan of this author.

Quotes

"Cat got your tongue, little mouse?"

"All I want to do is break her. Shatter her into pieces. And then arrange those pieces to fit against my own. I don’t care if they don’t fit—I’ll fucking make them."

"You don’t need a cop to get me in handcuffs, baby. I’ll let you do anything you want to me."
